PGD & Advanced Embryo Selection

IVF with PGDThe term PGD (pre-implantation genetic diagnosis) refers to a pre-embryo transfer procedure, the goal of which is to identify genetic defects in IVF embryos, thus increasing the chances of the baby being born free of genetic diseases. It is commonly applied to test for single-gene or chromosomal disorders and allows to identify over 100 genetic disorders. Additionally, it can be used as a means to determine embryo quality, thus increasing the chances of a successful outcome of an embryo transfer.

PGD is an advanced embryo selection approach and many couples have benefited from its use.

At Central IVF, PGD is performed using the 24Sure Array CGH (comparative genomic hybridization) technology which enables all 24 chromosomes in a developing embryo to be analyzed prior to implantation. This allows selection of the embryo with the greatest likelihood of pregnancy success.

Advanced Embryo Selection benefits:

  • Screens all chromosomes in a developing embryo, thus allowing us to accurately select the embryo with the greatest likelihood of pregnancy success.
  • The test is performed on day-3 or day-5 embryos
  • Results from day-3 embryos biopsy are available overnight so embryos do not need to be frozen whilst awaiting results.
